1996 RACE TO NORTH AMERICA OPENS!

Nominations are now open for a fan from Australasia to travel to North America to attend LACon III, the 54th Worldcon, August 29 - September 2, 1996.

Nominations close: 31 October 1995

A candidate promises, barring acts of God, to attend LACon III, to produce a Trip Report to be sold as a fundraiser for the Fund, and to Administer the Australasian end of the fund until their successor is chosen.

Each candidate must supply a platform of about one hundred (100) words encouraging fans to vote for them, as well as a brief history of previous travel to North America, if any. A bond of $Aus 20 is also required. Three (3) nominations from Australasia and two (2) nominations from North America for the candidate must be received by the current administrator. Email nominations are fine to beat the deadline, but a signed nomination should follow by post.

Voting closes: 21 April 1996

Voting is open to anyone active in fandom since December 1993. Ballots will be available in November 1995, and if you would like to help distribute them throughout fandom, please contact one of the current administrators.

1995 DUFF TRIP SUCCESSFUL!

Pat and Roger Sims of Cincinnati won the 1995 DUFF Race, and travelled to Australia to attend Thylacon, the 1995 Australian National Convention, in Hobart, Tasmania. While on their trip they also visited Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Wellington.

They have returned to North America with lots of photos, as well as t-shirts, signed books and other "Australiana" to auction.

Fen who acted as hosts, guides and helpers during their visit include Mervyn Barret, John Foyster, Elaine Cochrane and Bruce Gillespie, Donna Heenan, Tim Jones, Eric Lindsay and Jean Weber, Roman Orzanski, Nick Stathopoulos, and Alan Stewart.

DUFF Australasia currently has over 1400 fanzines for sale. A list is available if you send a stamped self-addressed envelope or email the Australian administrator. Reasonable offers which include coverage of postage costs will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The list has been sent to the US administrators.

DUFF Australasia also has lots of things to be auctioned at future conventions.

Items include books signed by Roger Zelazny, Mike Resnick and Vonda McIntyre; a Roslyn's Cafe t-shirt; various US Worldcon and convention t-shirts; stickers; badges; signed manuscripts; "Opus" coffee mug; framed `US Space Fantasy Stamps'; film promotion posters and badges; various t-shirts; and lots of books, hard cover, trade pb and pb.

Nothing much was sold at Thylacon, so it looks like ARCon and Confusion '96 will be the big auctions. Of course if you'd like to make me an offer I can't refuse to have first option on an item please let me know.

DUFF appreciates the support of Eric Lindsay who has been selling fanzines and donating money to DUFF and other fannish charities. Thanks also to Gigi Boudville and Justin Ackroyd for transporting materials and handling auctions for DUFF.

Thanks also to the numerous fans who offered accommodation, transport, meals, acted as tour guides, and gave of their time while on my trip to North America last year.
